The Academy

Mark Sorensen - Technology Coordinator & Computer Science Teacher

After graduating from high school I went into the Electronics Program at ISU graduating with an AAS in Laser Electro-optics / Electronics. Later I enlisted in the US Army and learned how to repair electronics used in the M1 Tank and Bradley Fighting Vehicles, as well as related Laser Range Finding and Night Vision equipment. During my final year of service at Fort Hunter Liggett (Testing and Experimental Command) I was also designated to help with post network security. By this time I was already known as the 'guy to talk to' if you have issues with your computer. In 1995 I received an Honorable Discharge, and went back to ISU for 2 more years, finishing my generals and taking mostly computer science, physics, and math courses and later started my own computer business. In 2006 I joined the staff at The Academy first as a consultant, then to implement the network and technology, and finally as the computer lab instructor. During this time I completed a BS IT degree from WGU as well as my Idaho K-8 all subjects teachers certification through ABCTE.
