WELCOME TO 7TH GRADE!

How I Came to be a Teacher at Connor Academy

While I was finishing my Bachelor's Degree at ISU, I began my journey at Connor Academy. In 2012 I was hired as the 6th Grade E.A. I loved the work and the students so much that I decided to pursue my teaching certificate after I received my BFA. In the fall of 2016, I was finally hired to teach 7th Grade, and I instantly fell in love!

Why I Do What I Do

I LOVE 7th Graders! They are at a pivotal point in their lives -- they are transitioning from children to young adults. These malleable little souls need a positive force as they try to figure out who they are. I strive to be that positive force as I teach them not only academic subjects but important life skills as well.

I LOVE the 7th Grade Social Studies! It gives the students an opportunity to learn more about the world around them. They get to explore the whole world through our Geography and History program. I love seeing their faces light up with curiosity as we learn of new places around the world.

I LOVE 7th Grade math! Maybe I'm a little biased, but 7th Grade has the coolest math curriculum. We spend time building on what they have already learned, then we take that knowledge and have more fun with it! The students get to dabble in geometry and algebra. They work on graphing, proportions, and so much more. Most importantly, they learn the WHY. Why do numbers work the way that they do? It's always a treat for me when I see the kids "get it!" It's an even bigger treat when they tell me that they love math, or even, "Math isn't as bad as I thought it was."

About Me

Although I enjoy building up my students and helping them be the best they can be, I also enjoy my free time. When I'm not at school, you can bet your bottom dollar that I'm probably working on a contemporary play at one of Pocatello's local theatres. If I'm not basking in the limelight, I'm probably snuggled up with my two adorable kitties and a delicious cup of coffee!

"Creativity is intelligence having fun."
